Who are the therapists?

ACS therapists are selected for their caring nature. Most of them have extensive life experience and can relate empathically to your concerns. ACS therapists are counsellors in the late stage of their training. They are professionally supervised by highly trained and experienced supervisors, ensuring you receive the highest quality care.

If I don’t connect with my therapist, can I change?

Our experienced team do their best to match you to a therapist that can best empathise with, and help you with, your needs. If however you feel you do not connect with your therapist, we will match you with another.

Are my sessions confidential?

We take your privacy and confidentialityvery seriously. Your sessions are confidential between you and your therapist. For more information see our Privacy Policy.

How much do sessions cost?

ACS sessions are highly subsidised, making our clinical services amongst the most cost effective available. In most instances, individual sessions are $59, 3-pack is $150.

How do I pay for sessions?

Sessions are charged via most credit cards at the time of booking. Cancellations received before 48-hours of the session delivery are eligible for a refund.

Do I need a referral from my GP?

No, you can book your session online directly with ACS without need for a referral.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies depending on the individual case. Sessions are typically delivered weekly. Progress is monitored using a consultative model and follow-up sessions booked as required.

Can I do sessions over video?

Yes, all ACS counselling sessions are delivered online via secure video, so you can access support from anywhere in Australia.

Online counselling makes it easier to fit sessions into your life, without the need to travel or take extra time out of your day. Many clients find they feel more comfortable speaking from their own home, and it also improves access for people living regionally, studying, working full-time, or juggling family commitments.

Our online sessions are private, confidential, and delivered by highly-skilled counsellors, with the same level of care you’d expect in-person.

Do I need Private Health Insurance?

No, you do not need private health insurance. As our services as substantially subsidised, they are extremely affordable. In most cases, individual sessions are $59, 3-pack is $150.

Are student counsellors qualified?

Our student counsellors are completing their bacheloror master’s studies with the AustralianInstitute of Professional Counsellors (AIPC) and are gaining real-world experiencethrough placement. While they are still in training, every session is closelysupported by experienced, qualified supervisors to ensure your care is safe,professional, and well-guided.

Is this the same quality as private therapy?

While our counsellors are students, the standard ofcare is high. Students are trained in evidence-based approaches and are closelysupervised throughout their placement.Many clients appreciate working with studentcounsellors because they are highly engaged, up-to-date with current learning,and supported by regular clinical supervision.For clients with complex or high-risk needs, we mayrecommend referral to a fully qualified practitioner to ensure the right levelof support.

Will I see the same counsellor each week?

Yes, wherever possible, you will see the samecounsellor each week to support consistency and therapeutic progress.Our student counsellors are with us for between threeand six months, during that time, we do our best to link you with the samecounsellor to provide continuity and a stable therapeutic relationship.

How are sessions supervised?

All of our student counsellors receive weekly clinicalsupervision from experienced, qualified mental health professionals. Duringthese session, they review their client work, receive guidance on therapeuticapproaches, discuss and monitor any risks and ethical considerations. Supervision ensures clients receive safe, ethical, and well-supported care. Oursupervisors do not join counselling sessions, sessions are held solely betweenyou and your counsellor.

How is it so affordable?

Our service is designed as a training clinic andbecause our counsellors are completing supervised placement hours as part oftheir qualification, we’re able to offer sessions at low cost.
Our goal is to make counselling accessible to thecommunity while also supporting the development of emerging counsellors.Affordability does not mean lower standards; it reflects our supervisedtraining model and commitment to accessible care.
